Picture 6: "why" - scientific chart

Why the company is forced to carry out the reduction is not just a matter of numbers, right?
I am the head of the company and I want every employee to know about some significant changes that we plan to make. Why do global market forces push us out of the manufacturing business? Why can not we continue to do as before?
I am four years old and I want to know why the sky is darker, why I can not watch TV all day and why parents do not like it when I constantly ask questions. Why can not I stop?
As all these examples show, there are two ways to answer the question "why":
"Quite good" (because we need to save money, because we need to take into account the issues of globalization or because I said so) and the true hidden answer (it's better to sit down, because it will take us a long time to explain), which we will further refer to as " scientific ".
Since there are two ways to answer the question "why", this last piece gets two pictures *: a simple one for a "sufficiently good" answer and complex for a "science-like" answer. We will give the second picture an awful sounding, but exact (from the scientific point of view) name, which we already know in the morning: a portrait **.
* Yes, I violate my own rule, but only for a second. Now you will understand why I am doing this.
**Exactly! The question "why" - the main one for today - can be depicted with the help of the first picture we created, which returns the "pizza problem" to the beginning. Well, is not it wonderful when everything is resolved in this way?
Let's start with a simple one.

Picture 6: "why" - scientific chart

  1. Picture 2: "how much" - graph
Problems like "how much" are directly related to numbers. How many items did we sell? Do we have enough money to hold out until the end of the quarter? What happens in the stock market? Such kinds of questions that load our way of seeing "how much" are compelled to constantly count (or at least try to calculate) the objects around us. Examples of problems like "how much": I'm a financial analyst,
  2. Your pictures are "why". Theme and variations
    I. Simple truth Draw a simple "good enough" portrait, showing why visual thinking is a powerful way to solve problems. My decision is given in the appendix on p. 374. 2. Scientific Scheme Create a simple multifactor scheme that can illustrate one or two links between the following data sets: the proportion of participants in a typical business meeting,
  3. Why do some pictures work and others do not?
Over the years, helping people solve problems with pictures, I was often surprised that some types of pictures helped clarify the situation, while others only worsened understanding. This is not related to picture quality. For example, people in diagram A were drawn much more accurately than the contours of figures in diagram B, but this did not help to make diagram A more simple to understand. It did not have
  4. But if I can not just show you the final picture, why do not I combine it with the account?
The most important part of this story (and for me, from a personal and professional point of view, one of the most breakthrough moments in the entire book) is not at all related to what the final prototype looked like *. The breakthrough came about thanks to the pictures drawn by the team - thus the pictures that we just discussed in such detail. As in the story of McKinsey and Lego, I was at first afraid to show these
  5. Charts
In Excel, the graph is plotted for each data group in the sample, i.e., when you plot the line by line in the chart, there will be as many lines as the rows are selected. When you plot the graph on the columns of the lines will be the same as the number of columns. Excel charts, as well as histograms, are of three types, the first two of which have three types - normal, accumulated and normalized. Graphs of the first
  6. Loop graphs of ventilation
The static loop P-V (the pressure-volume diagram, Fig. 4.15) is obtained with a large volume syringe and is used mainly for scientific research. Most of what is known about P-V loops is derived from this method. The most important advantage of such a P-V loop is that individual points of the graph are obtained by measuring the pressure and volume in the absence of a flow

  8. Interpretation of the graphs characterizing the ventilation of the lungs
If during the IVL the patient tries to breathe on his own (Fig. 4.8), then he is doomed to fight with the apparatus. Reducing the inspiratory time or, better still, changing the ventilation mode to such that the patient can breathe on its own even with forced inspiration is an option to remember. VIRAR and SIMV are examples of suitable modes in this case. When the yield is changed
  9. How to read scientific and non-fiction books and magazines
In this age of information explosion, the age of space and electronics, it is very important to keep abreast of the latest advances in science and technology. It is difficult to imagine a specialist in any field of knowledge who would not read the literature on his specialty. And do you need scientific and popular literature for schoolchildren? Of course, it is necessary. In order to determine their place in modern society, to find an occupation that answers
