Nutrition of nursing mother

Among the persistent myths about breastfeeding, the myth about the special diet of a nursing mother is the most frequently repeated. Many women, on the advice of “well-wishers,” sit on a very strict diet for the entire period of breastfeeding, not allowing themselves a single piece of fried or, say, salty. The situation is aggravated by the fact that recommendations on nutrition for nursing mothers, which are now distributed in maternity hospitals and children's clinics, are made against the background of a sharp increase in the number of allergies in young children. From the first days of feeding, the nursing mom begins to be restricted, as if she already suffers from a hereditary food allergy and must pass it on to her baby. However, in fact, such cases are not so frequent, and food allergies in the form of diathesis are more common in children of artificial animals, and not babies. Therefore, an ordinary average woman does not need to adhere to such strict rules. So what should we be afraid to eat when breastfeeding? Imaginary hazards During breastfeeding, the diet of a woman may be no different from her normal diet. Since pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding are natural physiological processes, their success cannot be fundamentally linked to the diet of a woman. Indeed, not a single mammal, be it a goat, a gorilla, or a she-wolf has changed her diet after giving birth! In this sense, the person belonging to mammals is not much different from them. Therefore, a nursing mother can eat as well as she ate during pregnancy. But after all, pregnant women are also advised to follow a diet? Of course, it is advised that food should be varied, complete, should contain more natural products and less of any chemistry. Sorry, but these recommendations can be given to anyone who has begun to think about their diet. Perhaps pregnancy is a reason to think about healthy eating and give up some of your habits. But to give up and limit yourself is only to the extent that a woman is ready to give up this forever. It is much more important to take care of diversity, eating all the products and focusing on the sharp food desires. Similarly, you can eat during lactation. But what about the products, because of which the child can "swollen"? Cabbage and black bread, and all legumes and much, much more are added to the list of such products. In fact, there is no direct connection between what mother eats and the composition of milk. Milk is a liquid of very complex composition, the concentration of each component in it is determined by the internal mechanisms of lactation. Milk is synthesized from the components of blood and lymph, and not from the contents of my mother's stomach. Only artificial supplements in the diet, such as chemical dyes, or drugs enter the breast milk unchanged, and then, the concentration of some of them is comparable to the concentration in the mother’s blood, while others are much lower. No cabbage gets into the milk and therefore cannot “puff up” a child from it. Then what happens when a child really reacts to a product? In half of the cases, an impartial assessment of the situation (in particular, repeating the feeding of the mother with a suspicious dish in a week) shows that there was no reaction, the child reacted to something else, for example, a change in the weather. In other cases, there is indeed an individual reaction to the product, not from the child, but, above all, from the mother. Not all foods we digest equally well. There are products that cause mom heartburn, flatulence, weak, strengthen. Depending on the strength of the reaction, certain changes occur in the mother’s blood, some of which can affect the composition of milk. In this case, the child may or may not respond to these changes. Each pair of mother-child is individual. Perhaps, after a while, the mother will find that when eating any kind of product, for example, the same cabbage, her child's gas builds up or becomes restless sleep. As a rule, such a product is only one or only two of them, and the same mother has different children who can react to different products. To predict in advance what kind of product it will be very difficult. For example, I regularly meet mothers whose child does not respond adequately to the product, but to a specific recipe, for example, stewed meat with garlic or cabbage stewed with mushrooms. It is unreasonable to remove the entire list from the diet in advance, because it is so possible to impoverish the diet of the nursing mother. Therefore, a more competent is the usual observation by trial and error. Perhaps the crumb will not react at all to the cabbage, but it will force the mother to limit the consumption of beet or bean soup. And what to do with products that supposedly dramatically change the taste and smell of milk? These usually include onions, garlic, radish, cauliflower, spicy smelling spices, etc. In the traditional recommendations of the last century, nursing mothers were advised to exclude them from their diet altogether and use it during weaning. As practice has shown all this is nothing more than fiction. Such products can affect the taste and smell of milk, but the appetite of children and the frequency of attachment to the breast do not change. To confirm this fact, in England such an experiment was carried out: they collected a list of 2 dozen of such products, fed them moms and watched how the frequency of sucking and the amount of milk sucked out by the baby changed, depending on what his mother ate or drank.
It turned out that of all the “suspicious” products only 2 were affected by the volume of milk being sucked out. If mothers ate garlic, then the children sucked the milk ... more, and not less, the sharp smell of garlic turns out to be pleasant to them! If mothers drank strong alcoholic drink, the children sucked sluggishly and could refuse to suck at all. So from the whole list of “bad-smelling” products remained ... alcohol, which, I am sure, a nursing mother reading this magazine will not eat. Thus, we repeat once again, the diet of a nursing mother should not differ from her nutrition during pregnancy. A special diet can be observed in special cases when the mother of the child is a pronounced allergic or the family is malnourished. The dangers are real - allergies If the mother or father of the child is allergic, this is especially true for the mother, then the woman should be more careful about her diet. Not only the food allergy of the mother, but also an allergy to smells, dust, cat's fur, poplar fluff, etc., can have a negative effect on the baby. In this case, the child may have a tendency to diathesis, which in some cases appears quite sharply literally in the first 2 months of life. Of course, here the best assistant mom will be a doctor. If this is a homeopath, his treatment will not cause additional allergies in the crumbs, and the results are simply magical. However, every mother who finds herself in such a situation should know the elementary safety rules. So, in children who are predisposed to allergies, the following foods can cause diathesis: · citrus fruits: lemon, orange, tangerine, grapefruit; · Strawberry, raspberry, sea buckthorn; · Foreign protein: beef and dairy products, fish and fish products, poultry and eggs, soybeans and legumes, etc. In addition to food, children may be allergic to: · chemical additives used in the food industry, such as preservatives, dyes , flavorings, etc. · baby food. Prophylactic vaccinations usually lead to exacerbation of diathesis. In the case of a child prone to allergies, the mother will need to adhere to certain restrictions in the diet. As a rule, in the first weeks of feeding, mother’s food is excluded: cow's milk, chicken, pork, fish, eggs, nuts, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, citrus fruits, etc. In some cases, the list may be much longer, in other cases shorter. . After some time, products are introduced one by one into Mom's diet with all the precautions. If an infant has an allergic reaction to one of the products injected, which can manifest itself as reddening of the skin of the cheeks, dry skin on the knees and elbows, increased gas formation (swelling), etc., then this product should be excluded from the diet for 1 month. and then try again. We do not specifically provide a complete list of products and the timing of their introduction into the mother's diet, emphasizing once again that this problem should be solved together with a doctor or an experienced consultant. However, it is very important that no product is excluded from my mother's diet forever. Today, experts believe that the introduction of allergens through breast milk in small quantities is an effective method that helps prevent the occurrence of allergies in the future. With the help of breast milk, the child better adapts to these products. Therefore, a child - a potential allergy - can not be weaned until he has become acquainted with all the products that he will eat in the future. His acquaintance with allergens occurs first through breast milk, and then directly, when he begins to get acquainted with the food of adults. If familiarity with food occurs against the background of breastfeeding, the new food is digested with the help of breast milk and does not cause sharply negative reactions in the child. Thus, mother's milk helps to adapt to allergens, allowing the child to absorb food in the most optimal way. It should also be noted that reducing the risk of allergies and diathesis during breastfeeding is directly dependent on the duration of breastfeeding. Thus, breastfeeding of the child is allergic, of course, will require mothers to be more attentive to their diet. However, all this will pay off handsomely if, as a result of the competent actions of the mother, the child outgrows his allergy with minimal consequences. I would also like to emphasize that diet restrictions are usually more stringent for a child of an artificialist than for infants, and the family will still have to follow a certain diet in order not to seduce the baby with something tasty, but unacceptable for him. Therefore, even though mom does not breastfeed, she will still have to sit on a diet, and perhaps not one year. It turns out that breastfeeding and dieting is much more beneficial not only for the health of the baby, but also for the convenience of the mother. I want to appeal to those mothers who doubt their ability to breastfeed a child because of restrictions in the diet. Breastfeed and eat everything! Restrictions are needed not for everyone, and if they are needed, they still cannot be avoided, with any type of feeding. If you need an individual consultation, then contact the specialists and they will help you. J.V. Tsaregradskaya
