Nursing mother's nutrition

Among the stable myths about breastfeeding, the most frequently repeated is the myth of a special diet of a nursing mother. Many women on the advice of "well-wishers" during the whole period of breastfeeding sit on the strictest diet, not allowing themselves a piece of fried or, say, salty. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that recommendations for feeding nursing mothers, now distributed in maternity homes and children's clinics, are made against a background of a sharp increase in the number of allergies in young children. From the first days of feeding, nursing mothers are beginning to restrict as if she already suffers a hereditary food allergy and necessarily passed it on to her child by inheritance. However, in fact, such cases are not so common, and food allergy in the form of diathesis is more often in children of artificial persons, and not babies. Therefore, the usual average woman does not need to adhere to such strict rules. So what should we be afraid to eat while breastfeeding? Dangers imaginary During breastfeeding, a woman's diet can not differ in any way from her usual diet. Since pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding are natural physiological processes, their success can not be crucially related to a woman's diet. Indeed, no other mammal, be it a goat, gorilla or wolf, has changed its diet after giving birth! In this sense, a person belonging to a mammal does not differ much from them. Therefore, a nursing mother can also eat as she ate during pregnancy. But because pregnant women are also advised to follow a diet? Of course, it is advised that food should be varied, full-fledged, should contain more natural products and less chemicals. Forgive, but these recommendations can be given to any person who began to think about his diet. Perhaps pregnancy is an excuse to think about a healthy diet and give up some of your habits. But to give up and limit oneself is only to the extent that a woman is ready to give up this forever. It is much more important to take care of diversity, using all products and focusing on acute food cravings. Similarly, you can eat and during lactation. But what about products with which the child can "puchit"? In the list of similar products bring and cabbage and black bread, and all the legumes and much, much more. In fact, there is no direct relationship between what the mother eats and the composition of milk. Milk is a very complex liquid, the concentration of each component in it is determined by the internal mechanisms of lactation. Milk is synthesized from the components of blood and lymph, and not from the contents of the mother's stomach. Only artificial food additives, such as chemical dyes, or drugs, enter breast milk without change and then, the concentration of some of them is comparable to the concentration in the mother's blood, while others are much lower. No cabbage enters the milk and therefore can not "puchit" the child from it. Then what happens when a child really reacts to a product? In half of the cases, an impartial assessment of the situation, (in particular the repetition of feeding a suspicious dish by the mother in a week) shows that there was no reaction, the child reacted to something else, for example, a change in the weather. In other cases, there is indeed an individual reaction to the product, not the child, but, first of all, the mother. Not all products are digested equally well. There are foods that moms cause heartburn, flatulence, weak, strengthen. Depending on the strength of the reaction, there are some changes in the blood of the mother, some of them may affect the composition of milk. In this case, the child can respond to these changes, and maybe not. Each mother-child pair is individual. Perhaps, after a while, my mother will find that when feeding with some kind of product, for example, the same cabbage, her child's gas production increases or sleep becomes restless. Typically, such a product is only one or only two, and in the same mother, different children can react to different foods. To foresee in advance what kind of product it will be very difficult. For example, I regularly see mothers in whom the child reacts inadequate to a certain recipe, for example, meat stewed with garlic or cabbage stewed with mushrooms. It is unreasonable to remove the entire list from the food in advance, because it's so good to impoverish the ration of the nursing mother. Therefore, more conventional is observation, trial and error. Perhaps the little one will not react at all to cabbage, but will force mom to limit the consumption of beet or bean soup. And what about the products that supposedly dramatically change the taste and smell of milk? They are usually referred to as onion, garlic, radish, cauliflower, spicy scented spices, etc. In traditional recommendations for the last century, nursing mothers were recommended to exclude them from their food at all and use during weaning. As practice has shown all this is nothing more than fiction. The taste and smell of milk, these products can and do affect, but the appetite of children and the frequency of application to the breast does not change. To confirm this fact, an experiment was carried out in England: they collected a list of 2 dozens of such products, fed them moms and watched how the frequency of sucking and the amount of milk sucked by the baby changed, depending on what his mother ate or drank.
It turned out that of all the "suspicious" products, only 2 influenced the amount of sucked milk. If the mothers ate the garlic, then the children sucked the milk ... more, not less, the sharp smell of garlic they seem to like! If moms drank a strong alcoholic beverage, then the children sucked languidly and could refuse to suck at all. So from the whole list of "badly smelling" products left ... alcohol, which, I'm sure, the nursing mother reading this magazine, will not eat. So, again, the diet of the nursing mother should not be different from her diet during pregnancy. Special diet can be observed in special cases, when the mother of the child is a severe allergic person or the family is on malnutrition. Dangers real - allergies If the mother or father of a child is allergic, this is especially true of the mother, then the woman should take more careful consideration of her diet. The baby can be adversely affected not only by the food allergy of the mother, but also by the allergy to smells, dust, cat hair, poplar fluff, etc. In this case, the child may have a tendency to diathesis, which in some cases manifests itself quite sharply literally in the first 2 months of life. Of course, here the best assistant of the mother will be a doctor. If it is a homeopathic doctor, its treatment will not cause additional allergy in crumbs, and the results are just magical. However, every mother who falls into this situation should know the basic rules of safety. So, in children predisposed to allergies, diathesis can cause the following foods: citrus fruits: lemon, orange, mandarin, grapefruit; · Strawberry, raspberry, sea-buckthorn; · Foreign protein: beef and dairy products, fish and fish products, poultry and eggs, soybeans and legumes, etc. In addition to food allergies in children can be caused by: · chemical additives used in the food industry, such as preservatives, dyes , flavoring, etc. • baby food. To exacerbate diathesis usually lead and preventive vaccinations. In the case of a child prone to allergies, the mother will need to adhere to certain restrictions in the diet. As a rule, in the first weeks of feeding, mothers are excluded from food: cow's milk, chicken, pork, fish, eggs, nuts, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, citrus fruits, etc. In some cases, the list may be much longer, in others shorter . After some time, the products are injected one by one into the mother's diet, with all precautions taken. If the baby has an allergic reaction to one of the injected products, which can manifest as reddening of the skin of the cheeks, dry skin on the knees and elbows, increased gas formation (swelling), etc., then this product should be excluded from the diet for a period of 1 month , and then try again. We do not specifically list the full list of products and the timing of their introduction into the diet of the mother, once again stressing that this problem should be solved together with a doctor or an experienced consultant. However, it is very important that no product is excluded from the mother's diet forever. Today, experts believe that the introduction of allergens through breast milk in small amounts is an effective method that prevents the occurrence of allergies in the future. With the help of breast milk, the baby is better adapted to these products. Therefore, a child - a potential allergy sufferer - can not be weaned until he has become acquainted with all the products that he will later eat himself. His acquaintance with allergens occurs first through the mother's milk, and then directly, when he begins to get acquainted with the food of adults. If you get acquainted with foodstuffs on the background of breastfeeding, the new food is digested with breast milk and does not cause the child to have sharply negative reactions. Thus, mother's milk promotes adaptation to allergens, allowing the child to digest food in the most optimal way. It should also be noted that reducing the risk of allergies and diathesis in breastfeeding is directly related to the duration of breastfeeding. Thus, breastfeeding a child with an allergy sufferer will certainly require a more attentive attitude to her nutrition from her mother. However, all this will pay off a hundredfold if, as a result of the competent actions of the mother, the child will outgrow its allergy with minimal consequences. I would also like to emphasize that for an artificial child the restrictions in the diet are usually stricter than for the baby, and the family will still have to follow a certain diet, so as not to tempt the baby with anything tasty, but unacceptable for him. Therefore, even though mother does not breast-feed, she will still have to sit on a diet, and perhaps for more than one year. It turns out that breastfeeding and dieting is much more beneficial not only for the health of the baby, but for the convenience of the mother. I want to appeal with an appeal to those mothers who doubt their ability to raise their baby due to dietary restrictions. Feed your baby and eat everything! Restrictions are not necessary for everyone and if they are needed, they can not be avoided anyway, with any type of feeding. If you need individual advice, then contact the specialists and you will definitely help. Zh. V. Tsaregradskaya
