The concept of lactation crises.

In some cases, lactation reduction is transient in nature, manifesting itself in the form of so-called lactation crises, by which we mean a temporary decrease in the amount of milk that occurs without an obvious visible reason. They are based on shifts in the hormonal system of women, associated with the frequency of hormonal regulation of lactation, in combination with an increase in the motor activity of women and an intensive growth of the infant, leading to an increase in his appetite.
Lactation crises occur at 3-6 week, 3,4,7 and 8 months of lactation.
Their duration, on average, is 3-4 days, and they do not pose a danger to the health of the child. If the mother is instructed by the doctor about the possibility of lactation crises and promptly increases the frequency of breast attachment, she thereby successfully increases the volume of lactation. However, if the mother is not prepared for this situation, then at the first signs of a decrease in lactation, she tries to add additional formula to the child.
