Stage 1. Theoretical information

At this stage, the content of such concepts as “gender perceptions”, “gender stereotypes”, “gender prejudices”, “models of gender relations” and “gender competence” are discussed.

The teacher complements and clarifies the answers of students, in which they reveal the content of the basic concepts of the topic.

In discussing the concept of gender competence, it is important to emphasize the following: a gender-competent person, thanks to egalitarian gender perceptions and the absence of expressed gender stereotypes and gender bias, is able to notice situations of gender inequality, analyze them and adequately evaluate, and demonstrate the ability to solve gender problems.

Gender competence can be formed and developed in the process of specially organized practical exercises, in which a person can understand and appreciate the characteristics of his gender competence.
If, during the course of classes, trainees can recognize the values of gender equality and justice as their own, learn to suppress their gender prejudices, and weakly biased students feel guilty in situations of discriminatory behavior, the task of increasing the gender competence of the trainees will be achieved.
