Lesson 8. Managing Emotions

Purpose: creating emotions management skills, understanding the emotional state of others.

Exercise 1

Each member of the group is invited to recall the situation that caused some feeling, and tell the group about it; the group is trying to understand how a person felt in that situation. If some participants are silent, it is necessary to explain that it is very important for the whole group to hear their opinion.

Personally significant situations should not be affected. To avoid stress, not too painful situations are selected from the daily lives of the participants.

Another version of the exercise: each participant takes turns depicting with a pose, facial expression or intonation their own state, which they currently feel, giving others the opportunity to understand this state.

Exercise 2

Each participant receives a card with the name of the emotional state (joy, admiration, aggression, goodwill, indifference, discontent, neglect) and with the corresponding intonation he utters any statement addressed to the group or individual participants who are trying to understand what feelings he conveys. At the end, a discussion is held in a general circle: “What am I doing to cope with my emotions?”

Tolerance corresponds to three types of interaction: dialogue, cooperation and custody.

The structure of dialogue interaction is dominated by emotional and cognitive components, which are characterized by a high level of empathy, a “sense of partner”, the ability to accept it as it is, the absence of stereotypes of perception, the flexibility of thinking, and also to see your personality, adequately accept and evaluate yourself.
It is dialogue interaction that implies equality of position in communication.

The second type of tolerant interaction - cooperation - involves the joint determination of the goals of activity, joint planning, the distribution of forces and means based on the capabilities of each. The following symptoms are characteristic of it: goodwill (lack of aggression, including aggression directed at oneself), contact, trust, mobility of action, social activity.

Custody is also associated with the concept of tolerance; it implies care, which does not at the same time degrade the dignity of the ward. This type of interaction is possible only when both sides accept each other and are tolerant of each other. This level of tolerant relations is characterized by the following features: emotional stability, social activity, extroversion, a high level of empathy.
