Features of studying at a university

The qualification of a teacher-psychologist is assigned after the end of the corresponding department (faculty) of a higher educational institution, most often a university. Usually the training period is 5 years.

What is studying the future teacher-psychologist? The content of education for each specialty is determined by a document called the “State Educational Standard”. It provides for the study of over 40 disciplines, which are divided into four sections.

750 class hours are allocated for the study of general humanitarian and socio-economic disciplines, 175 of them in a foreign language and 200 in physical education. The future pedagogue-psychologist also studies Russian history, cultural studies, political science, law, sociology, philosophy, economics.

The second block is the general mathematical and natural sciences. It involves the study of mathematics, computer science, the concept of modern science. Most disciplines in this section are taught in junior courses.

The fundamentals of specialist formation are carried out by disciplines of general professional and subject training, which account for the bulk of classroom work - more than 3,000 hours. This unit involves a detailed study of various sections of psychology and pedagogy, and workshops.

A feature of higher education is a constant increase in the proportion of elective classes from one course to another, which allows satisfying and developing students' professional interests. In addition, specialization (in-depth study) in various areas of professional activity (psychological and pedagogical correction, psychotherapy and clinical psychology, work with children deprived of parental care, etc.) is assumed in senior courses. Also, in pedagogical universities, the future pedagogue-psychologist can receive a second specialty (social teacher, social worker, etc.). Students are given the opportunity to study optionally in courses offered by university departments.

The training of a teacher-psychologist provides for the passage of several practices: in summer camps, schools, and pedagogical schools. In total, this type of training takes 20 weeks.

During the study period, students usually write three term papers. Final state certification involves writing and defending graduation qualification work.

Graduates are prepared to continue their education in graduate school.

Higher school differs from general education in its tasks, mode and forms of training. First of all, the university teaches adults with a certain professional orientation. If all children should study at school, then a student card is not given to everyone. At school, students study one standard textbook, while the university has a variety of textbooks, and sometimes their absence. Often, manuals are created by university professors themselves.

At school, the teacher teaches the student, and at the university the teacher directs the independent work of students. It is no accident that “student” in Latin means “hard working, engaged.” Independent work is the basis of studying at a university. Four major areas of such student work are conditionally distinguished: independent study of educational material in the framework of classes, self-education, self-control, self-education.

Self-education is understood as the purposeful replenishment and improvement of knowledge on one’s own initiative, carried out mainly through independent work, in accordance with the life plans and interests of the individual.

Self-education is a purposeful activity of a person to improve his personality.

A feature of studying at a university is the inclusion of students in research both during the educational process (UIRS - student research work) and outside it.
Already in the first year, students learn methods of psychological and pedagogical research and use them in preparation for seminars and practical classes. So, for example, when studying empirical research methods, programs for monitoring a group of children are compiled. Students conduct it themselves, record and analyze the results. When studying survey methods, each student compiles several questionnaires of various types, conducts a questionnaire survey of schoolchildren.

When writing term papers, it is usually supposed to carry out a small psychological and pedagogical study, which gradually deepens, expands and becomes the basis for future diploma work.

University departments (associations of teachers of the same profile), in addition to academic work, are engaged in research activities. University teachers are at the same time scientists working on a particular problem. Together with them, students can act as researchers. They can work as part of scientific circles, research laboratories, problem groups. There are student scientific societies at universities, conferences are held, and collections of works by young scientists are published. Inclusion in research activity even in his student years is the most important condition for the training of a teacher-psychologist, because all his future professional activities will be of a research nature.

Student life is not limited to studies. It is no coincidence that many prominent people recalled their student years as the happiest time. A variety of creative and artistic groups are created at universities: miniature theaters, vocal and dance groups, sports sections and clubs, design bureaus. In addition, faculties of additional professions often work, where students can receive serious training in any field. Amateur performances are held, KVN has become a traditional sign of student life.

Five years spent on a student bench is a period of becoming a person, turning a young man or girl into an adult. This is a time of aspirations for the future, a time of hopes and prospects. At the same time, it is an active inclusion in today's life. Now, when the scholarship cannot ensure the existence of a student, many of the older students have the opportunity to earn extra money, to show their competitiveness.

A university can give a student a lot. However, the result will largely depend on the position of the young man: whether he wants and whether he can take what is offered.

We should not forget that the university not only teaches students, but also helps them maintain their health and have a good rest. For 5 years of study, students spend 49 weeks on vacation, most of which falls in the summer. The universities have student dispensaries, health centers and camps, mass sporting events, and health days.
