Psychologist's professional abilities
Abilities are one of the most important qualities of a professional’s personality, which almost in the first place determines the success of mastering professional knowledge and skills, ensures the formation of social and professional competence.
Professional abilities are the individual psychological properties of a person’s personality that distinguish him from other people that meet the requirements of this profession and are a condition for its successful implementation. Professional abilities are formed on the basis of general abilities and later them, as well as relying on special abilities.
General professional abilities are the psychological properties of a person that are required of a person by a specific activity. They are determined by the subject of labor (man-man, man-nature, etc.).
Special professional abilities are the psychological properties of a person that are required of a person within the framework of a given profession, but with a narrower specialization. The more difficult the professional activity, the more important it is to develop special professional abilities.
Successful work in the field of scientific psychology requires appropriate abilities.
K.A. Ramul considers the following qualities necessary and important for each scientist:
• spontaneous curiosity,
• the ability to deal with the same problem for a long time,
• a relatively high degree of scientific giftedness, which involves the development of memory, creative thinking, imagination and observation.
However, in his opinion, “for a scientist-psychologist it does not seem necessary or very important to have any special feature, in addition to those abilities that are necessary or very important for every scientist in general ...” (Ramul, 1965, p. 133) .
V.L. Bozadzhiev starting from the classification of abilities proposed by B.M. Teplov, identified the following groups of psychologist abilities:
• interpersonal (communication) abilities;
• theoretical and practical abilities;
• Creative skills.
