Doctors and psychologists of the hospital noted that the wounded at the initial stage of treatment had some character accentuations: heightened situational anxiety, alertness and suspicion, reduced ability to control their emotions and the need for group support. The observed phenomenon can be characterized as a response of the individual to an extreme situation of injury, which involves the use of methods of psychological correction from the early stages of treatment. The greatest changes in psychological indicators are observed in servicemen who have been in combat for more than three months. This is consistent with the claims of many researchers, who in scientific publications on this issue showed that all the wounded who received battle wounds during local wars and armed conflicts in all cases have different degrees of mental changes in the form of reactions to emotional and physical stress: from a relatively short-term feeling of discomfort with scattered symptoms of psycho-emotional stress to psychopathological disorders of the neurotic and psychotic re gistra.
In psychogenesis of stressful disorders in the wounded, a number of determinants are identified, including: the background traumatic impact of the combat factors preceding the wound (duration of the combat situation, intensity of the battles), individual reaction to the vital threat, mental and general shock at the time of the injury, and others.
For combatants with a treatment period of 30–50 days, the severity of personality changes is reflected in the communicative sphere and moral standard, i.e. during the long-term treatment, many wounded had negative psychological stress reactions, mostly of a demonstrative and oppositional character.
