When using the possibility of activating the deep resources of the individual, previous life experience, the implementation of skills and abilities, the most important stages here are the choice of the type and direction of activity, the formation and development of professional competence, active determination of their position in relation to socially important values ​​and living conditions in society .

The availability of vital resources necessary and sufficient for a successful exit from the difficulties of life (resource element). Psychological stability is supported by internal (personal) resources and external (interpersonal; social support). Personal resources that support psychological stability and adaptation can be represented by social factors (factors supporting self-esteem, promoting self-regulation and adaptation) and personal factors (optimistic, active attitude to the life situation in general, philosophical attitude to difficult situations; confidence and independence in relationship with other people; lack of hostility; open communication; tolerance; a sense of community, satisfying status in the group and society; I-real and I-ideal; faith in the attainability of goals, understanding and feeling the meaning of life, meaningful activities and behavior, setting that you can manage your life, the dominance of stage positive emotions, emotional saturation from interpersonal interaction, understanding life situation and the possibility of its forecasting; adequate assessment of the magnitude of the load and its resources.

The presence of organizational qualities that contribute to the process of disclosure of adaptive capacity (organizational element): the ability to solve common organizational problems; determine your behavior model; master specific ways of effective planning; to remember that the more control over a situation is lost, the stress is stronger; master the ability to turn negative events into positive ones; in stressful situations, learn to relax in time; give yourself the energy of positive thinking; to understand more deeply what happens in situations of acute stress; master the technique of disconnecting from negative situations; learn to recognize stress in a timely manner; Do not avoid recommendations of kinesiology.

The source of most psychological (as well as many social) problems is hidden in the contradiction of the biological and social evolution of man: in the inconsistency of the emotional response mechanisms embedded in the human body by nature and the way of life of modern man, which imposes numerous "taboos" (in the words of Freud) his behavior and ways of emotional response. In order to remove this contradiction, it seems necessary to appeal to the internal reserves of a person - his personal potential.

Researchers of different years traditionally viewed potential as “hidden opportunities”, “source” in achieving goals, as “internal direction”, which gives human life a higher value and value.

From the position of psychology, exploring the potential as a psychological phenomenon, it is a process of continuous self-improvement and the desire to achieve peaks of personal professional development of a person and the realization of creative possibilities and abilities.

In the listed approaches, the study of the potential as a resource actively manifested by an individual in the environment is common.

The personal potential is formed under the influence of subjective (internal) and objective (external) conditions. In this case, the higher the personal potential, the more harmonious the interaction of a person with the outside world, the more opportunities for personal and professional growth of the person. The potential of an individual is transformed into a social value through the mechanisms of self-realization.

The concept of human development is associated with the disclosure of existing potential and consolidation of the properties being formed; and “growth” is associated with the acquisition of new properties and qualities. Both development and growth are inextricably linked in the evolution of man and human knowledge.

The most important condition for the effective functioning of the individual is the ability to change his goals and strategies to achieve them. An adaptive person is able to adjust his goals and plans to take advantage of new opportunities, and can also reconcile opposing requirements: uniformity and diversity, stability of change, adaptation and self-regulation.

To understand the essence of adaptation, it is important to know that personal regulation allows for the transformation of structural organization, which implies both the formation of new mental properties and the complication of existing ones and the manifestation of latent ones. Among the new properties can be attributed to adaptation, reflecting the degree and direction of actualization of the existing adaptive capacity. The change in the content of personal regulation demonstrates the high adaptive plasticity of the personality, which is necessary to preserve integrity when interacting with a dynamic social environment.

The success of the adaptation process depends on the choice of life strategies, determined by the ability to anticipate the situation, to predict the outcome of events. In human knowledge and psychological research there is an awareness of the fact that “in the humanities and social studies excessive enthusiasm for quantitative methods of the exact sciences, and especially statistics, sometimes obscures the understanding that the methodological basis of modern exact sciences is not so much the measurement methods as the principles of abstraction. The absence of measurable characteristics of the object of study does not mean the impossibility of its generalized analysis, even if it is qualitative, but implying some abstraction. ” In this regard, in the study of man, traditional methods belonging to the experimental natural-science paradigm should be complemented by methods of the experimental humanitarian paradigm.
