Motivation - due to an actualized need, the excitation of certain nervous structures (functional systems) that cause directed activity of the organism. Motivation of behavior is always emotionally saturated. All motivational states are modifications of need states. The motive is a conscious urge to achieve a specific goal, understood by the individual as a personal necessity, a personal meaning of the act. Human activity is usually prompted by several motives - a hierarchy of motives. At the same time, certain motives gain leading value. Leading motives give activity, its objects and conditions personal meaning - meaning.

An example of purposeful and motivated behavior is choosing a future action option, making a decision, realizing intentions and evaluating the results of an action taken at the option selection stage — compiling information flows, selectively searching and extracting information from memory; at the decision making stage, choosing a future action option reduces the number of degrees freedom makes certainty in action.
