Theoretical foundations and basic concepts of military professional psychological selection
The theory of military professional psychological selection and its methodology are based on the achievements of general and differential psychology, social psychology, psychophysiology, neuropsychology, psychiatry. This interdisciplinarity is due to the complexity of the phenomena of the psyche and in some cases leads to an ambiguity in the interpretation of concepts and basic theoretical and methodological principles on which practical psychologists rely on solving the tasks of professional psychological selection. In order to coordinate the actions of military psychologists, the basic concepts and terms of military professional psychological selection and the procedure for its conduct are approved by orders of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation and directives of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
So, in accordance with the terminology adopted by the Armed Forces, professional psychological selection is one of the types of professional selection and represents a set of measures aimed at achieving high-quality staffing of military posts based on ensuring the conformity of professionally important socio-psychological, psychological and psychophysiological qualities of citizens, drafted or voluntarily enlisted in military service, and military personnel requirements of a military professional spells
In turn, professionally important qualities are the socio-psychological, psychological and psychophysiological qualities of citizens called up or voluntarily enlisted in the military, and military personnel that meet the requirements of military professional activity and determine their successful adaptation to military service, effective training in the military specialty and effective performance of activities in a specific military position.
As a rule, the determination of professional suitability is carried out using methods of socio-psychological study, psychological and psycho-physiological examination.
Socio-psychological study provides an assessment of the conditions for the upbringing and development of the individual, its military professional orientation, organizational abilities, communication and behavior in the team, educational and professional readiness, and is carried out using the following basic methods; studying documents, monitoring and interviewing.
Psychological and psychophysiological examination allows you to assess the degree of development of cognitive mental processes, personality traits, properties of the nervous system, as well as the level of neuropsychic resistance.
According to the results of professional psychological selection, one of the following conclusions is made:
Recommended primarily (first category).
Citizens assigned to this category, in terms of the development of professionally important qualities, fully comply with the requirements of this military position, which allows them to master the military specialty in a timely manner, to have predominantly excellent grades based on the results of inspections, final, control checks and final exams, and get a class qualification.
Recommended (second category).
Citizens assigned to this category, in terms of the development of professionally important qualities, mainly meet the requirements of this military post, which allows them to master the military specialty in a timely manner, to have predominantly good grades based on the results of inspections, final, control checks and final exams.
Recommended conditionally (third category).
Citizens assigned to this category, according to the level of development of professionally important qualities, minimally meet the requirements of this military post, have difficulty mastering the military specialty in a timely manner, have mostly satisfactory marks based on the results of inspections, final, control checks and final exams.
Admitted to training or professional activities with a lack of candidates.
Not recommended (fourth category).
Citizens assigned to this category, in terms of the development of professionally important qualities, do not meet the requirements of this military post.
When developing and conducting events for professional psychological selection, as a rule, they are guided by certain principles, the most important of which are the principles of scientific validity, comprehensiveness, dynamism, activity and practicality.
