I admit, I also learned the scientific definition only when I started seriously interested in questions of excess weight. In the manuals it is written that the calorie (more correctly kilocalorie) is the amount of energy needed to heat 1 liter of water by 1 ° C. I think it is not necessary to remember this definition, because we are not at the physics class. But it is important to understand that calorie is a unit of energy, not something else. (In ordinary life, for simplicity, everyone talks about calories, not about kilocalories.)

A person spends a certain amount of energy a day. While he is going to work, walks in the park, takes a shower, even when he sleeps, the body constantly consumes energy.
