Summary

So what is more in vegetarianism: good or bad? Unambiguously, we can only say that orthodox vegetarianism, or old vegetarianism, is not suitable for long-term nutrition. This system can sometimes be applied for a short time. The long-term use of a vegan diet is considered unacceptable, because over the years vegans develop a sharp deficiency of iron, zinc, calcium, vitamins B2 and B12, B, irreplaceable acids - lysine and threonine. There are many examples of this, and the history of the Lykov family, who lived in the taiga for more than fifty years, is very revealing. They wrote a lot about them in Soviet times, so I won’t retell it, I’ll only point out that the surviving son and daughter of the Old Believers had all of these abnormalities and were extremely depleted, since they ate only plant foods.
Even healthy people who exclude all products of animal origin from their diet can reach dysbiosis, hypovitaminosis and protein deficiency. While patients suffering from serious diseases, including malignant tumors, diseases of the lymphatic and circulatory systems can pay their lives.
As for young or ovolacto-vegetarians, any healthy person can benefit from the experience of their nutrition, because with milk and eggs he will still receive most of the valuable nutrients. But if a person decided to switch to vegetarianism in order to get rid of some disease, it would be right first to think carefully or consult a doctor, since in some diseases of the gastrointestinal tract an abundance of plant food can worsen the state of the digestive organs. However, it should be noted that the fact that plant foods help to effectively combat constipation.

Switching to vegetarian food is primarily recommended for patients suffering from metabolic disorders manifested by obesity, gout and atherosclerosis. Vegetarianism in these diseases is a kind of therapeutic nutrition.
Introduction to food of cereal products, vegetables and fruits, berries and greens is useful not only for vegetarians. Most people have used this for centuries, observing periodically fasting, because fasting just provides for the exclusion of animal products from food. The main difference between fasting and vegetarianism is that the period of restrictions alternates with regular meals. From a scientific point of view, fasting is even more beneficial to the body, as it is for. a relatively short period of fasting (several weeks) in the body can not develop a deficiency of essential nutrients.
During fasting, a great opportunity is created to expand the assortment of fruits, vegetables, herbs, roots, mushrooms and berries in your daily menu. During this period, the body "rests" from fatty foods, smoked meats, meat, salted fish, etc. And it is very good that now irrevocable departure into the past of militant atheism has allowed most of us to return to Orthodox rites and traditional Christian fasts.
Concluding my talk about vegetarianism, I want to remind once again that the transition to vegetable nutrition is not recommended in childhood and adolescence (during intensive growth of an organism that has not yet become stronger). You should not resort to vegetarianism during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in old age. Well, as for everyone else, they are free in their choice.
