Selenium

If iodine deficiency suffers most of the population of Russia, then there is one trace element, the lack of which is manifested in almost everyone! This is selenium.
According to the Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, more than 80% of the Russian population suffers from selenium deficiency. To maintain health, we need quite a bit of selenium. The World Health Organization considers that a woman needs 55 mcg per day, a man needs 70 mcg, and a child needs 1 mcg of this substance per kg of weight. It should be remembered that micrograms, which are measured, are selenium, a thousand times less than a milligram - the traditional value of vitamin doses (1 g is 1000 mg, and 1 mg is 1000 mcg). But you can independently assign yourself no more than 50 micrograms of selenium per day.
Unfortunately, food can not fully provide us with selenium. This substance enters the plants from the soil, in which it is extremely small in Russia. And besides, selenium is additionally ruined by fertilizers and heavy metals. Poisoned land contains a beneficial trace element in poorly digestible form.
Selenium is best known as a microcell of longevity. Since it not only protects the cell membranes from damage by aggressive forms of oxygen, it also actively helps vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, to fully reveal its antioxidant potential. In addition, it turned out that he is able to protect our body from mercury, cadmium, lead, thallium and other harmful substances, satellites of modern civilization, flooded the environment.
At one time, this extremely important microelement for health even seemed to many scientists to be a real panacea for all diseases. He was prescribed in large and even giant doses. But after a while it became clear that an excess of this substance is no less harmful than its deficiency. So its use should be treated very carefully.
Selenium has a very strong anticarcinogenic effect, and not only prevents, but also suspends the development of certain malignant tumors.
It provides protection and motility to spermatozoa, and this quality is widely used in the treatment of male infertility.
But its main feature is the normalization of metabolism. It is necessary for the synthesis of iodine hormones of the thyroid gland. Therefore, the fight against iodine deficiency is impossible against the background of selenium hunger.
Now in the pharmacy network there are more than 100 selenium-containing drugs. Interest in them is often fueled artificially by the manufacturers. And, of course, it’s not easy to choose what you need. OTC drug delivery, designed to make life easier for a person, is designed for a competent consumer interested in medicine and a qualified pharmacist who is ready to give professional advice. But in reality, even from the abstract we get far from all the necessary information.
So, choosing a drug, pay attention to the following points.
What is its chemical structure. The first-generation preparations contain selenium in the form of inorganic salts, which are poorly absorbed and often cause side effects: nausea, stomach discomfort. Moreover, if selenium is included in the preparation in this form (for example, sodium selenite, sodium selenate or sulfur selenium), then the package, as a rule, is silent about this. Modern pharmacology advises to give preference to drugs in which it is in the form of compounds with organic substances — bio-ligands (selenium-cysteine, selenium-methionine, or divalent forms of selenium). They are safe, effective, but, alas, are expensive. The manufacturer of such additives always puts on the packaging detailed information about the composition, because it has nothing to hide, it is proud of the new technologies.

Chekurov IW. Scientific adviser: Ph.D., Professor LL Abramova FGOU VPO “Orenburg State Agrarian University”, Orenburg Relevance. Selenium is a biologically active trace element that is part of a number of hormones and enzymes, thus associated with the activity of all organs, tissues and systems. Its presence in the body along with other trace elements is necessary for
  2. HYGIENE PLANNING PLANTS
Planning activities are of great importance for protecting the population from the harmful effects of emissions from industrial enterprises. According to SNiP P-60-75 "Planning, building of cities, towns and rural settlements", the territory for the construction of new and reconstruction of existing cities and settlements should be chosen taking into account the possibility of rational placement of places
  3. Physiological and hygienic assessment of the main trace elements.
Trace elements are chemical elements found in the tissues of the human body in concentrations of 1: 100,000 or less. To trace elements also include chemical elements in low concentrations contained in water, soil, etc. Some trace elements are absolutely essential for the vital processes of the human body, as well as for the normal course of many metabolic processes.

In terms of its structure and composition, a bird's egg is perfect. A microscopically small live cell in a fertilized egg is capable of
  5. CHA-CHA: EIGHT-GOAT (tale about OK'SUMORON)
We have such a custom in Cuba: when the guests come, they should wash glasses and gently stroke them and sprinkle sugar sand, saying: “Where I’ll put a cup, I’ll sit there with my friends”. But it's not that. Here, the old Donya Ivanna Rossita Buernos (the Russian name was given to her nine months later, after the ship under the Russian flag entered the port of Havana) told a tale about the eight-legged
  6. MINERALS OTHER THAN IRON
In countries where iodine deficiency is a public health problem, legislation on complete salt iodization should be adopted and ensured. Many minerals are essential micronutrients and play a vital role in growth, health and development. This chapter discusses those that are most important when introducing
  7. Sanitary protection of water resources and water utilities
The most general provisions on the procedure for the use and protection of underground and surface water sources are set forth in the document “Basics of water legislation”. The document distinguishes between two categories of water use. The first is the use of a water body for drinking water supply (centralized or decentralized) and the supply of water to food enterprises
  8. Questions in section: "FOOD HYGIENE"
    1. What element is underrepresented in milk: Answer options: a) calcium; b) iron; c) phosphorus; d) selenium; d) copper. 2. The combination of which products with bread gives the best balance of amino acids: Answer options: a) cabbage; b) potatoes; c) milk and lactic acid products; g) pumpkin porridge; e) carrots. 3. The destruction of ascorbic acid in food during storage and cooking
  9. Coma in acute poisoning
For the mnemonic memorization of the main reasons causing the development of comatose states, the word ATOMIC was suggested: A - alcohol; T - injury; O - poisoning; M - metabolic disorders; And - an infection; K - carbon monoxide (carbon). PHARMACOLOGICAL DIAGNOSTICS OF TOXIC COMA Naloxone (0.8 mg) in 40 ml of 40% glucose solution with 100 mg of thiamine intravenously has an awakening effect on
  10. Trace elements
Iron The body's iron stores are usually small. It is necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin, myoglobin, enzymes. Manganese A component or activator of enzymes that plays a role in the metabolism of bones. Zinc A component of enzymes. Lack of zinc leads to eczema, especially in the oral cavity, diarrhea, alopecia, hypogonadism. Zinc loss occurs during surgery (Dolp,
  11. Purpose and classification of canning
Canning is a reliable way to preserve the biological value, taste, and epidemiological safety of food products for a long time. The use of canning reduces the effect of seasonality in the use of products, especially fruits, berries, vegetables and their products. Canned foods can be transported over long distances, which gives
  12. Iodine
Function Iodine is an indispensable substrate in the synthesis of thyroid hormones, which are among the most important regulators of metabolism (1). Thyroid hormones are needed for normal growth and development, for the absorption of oxygen in the cells and for maintaining the intensity of metabolism (2). Thyroid hormones are also important for mental development and delay
  13. Microelements
Trace elements should be added to the PP with the daily needs. However, the information available on this issue is clearly insufficient, since there are no well-defined doses of microelements for patients in intensive care units. However, a frequent micronutrient deficiency may be accompanied by some clinical manifestations and ultimately influence the results of treatment. Highly
