Nutrition Disputes



The traditions of nutrition in each region have evolved over the centuries, and those adopted here in Russia are completely unacceptable, say, on the Indian subcontinent or on the Japanese islands. In the history of diet, no one has sought to blindly introduce the experience and traditions of other nations at home or to unify the diet for all people, adjusting them to the same brush.
However, in recent decades not even many, but just a lot of original ideas and concepts that do not fit into the framework of traditional ideas about food. Due to the increased interest in new methods of nutrition, they are actively distributed and promoted among the population. Unfortunately, a critical analysis of new ideas about nutrition in the health literature is extremely rare.
The reason for this is not difficult to understand. The current level of working and living conditions has led to a decrease in the share of physical labor and a decrease in the energy consumption of the body. Consequently, there is a need to reduce the caloric intake of the diet.
But the decrease in energy content of food eaten, achieved by reducing the consumption of proteins, fats and carbohydrates, leads to a simultaneous decrease in the intake of vitamins and mineral salts. And this is a direct path to disease.
Thus, in order to preserve health, each person must solve for himself the problem of choosing the most optimal and acceptable nutrition. This task itself is not easy, but today it has to be solved against the background of material instability and uncertainty about tomorrow. In such conditions, many of us tend to grasp at something original and non-standard, promising "universal health and joy." It is a pity that in this case we are not aware of the danger of such promises, of how many tales and absurdities are in them.
