Foreword

When you see the cover of this book, your first reaction might be: "Oh, no, just not yet another book on anesthesiology!" Further, you may ask: "What can this book offer me, what is not in the famous manuals on anesthesiology of Miller, Stelting or Barrash?" In recent years, many books on anesthesiology have been written, and it seems inconceivable that the new edition may have some unique characteristics. However, in this case, you have Clinical Anesthesiology. What sets this book apart from others? It seems to me that there are traits that make it special, not like the others and worthy of taking its place in the library of every anesthetist.

Firstly, most modern manuals on anesthesiology are written by a large team of authors, who usually turn each section into an author's work, which results in unnecessary repetitions, which usually cannot be eliminated. With the exception of two chapters on regional anesthesia, this book is completely written by two renowned educators and clinicians with extensive experience. Professors J. Edward Morgan Jr. and M. Michael teach anesthesiology at one of America's largest medical centers. Their practical experience is vast, and therefore what they write about is known to them from clinical observations. But there is no better teacher than his own experience. The guide covers all relevant issues of anesthesiology. The presentation style is concise and easy to read.

Secondly, the manual is well illustrated. Tables, figures and graphs are perfectly perceived visually, which allows you to restore the necessary details in your memory when the written words are already forgotten.
Professors Morgan and Mikhail paid particular attention to making each illustration modern and enriching it with content that was easy to interpret.

In addition, in each chapter is a case from practice, as if summing up the whole of the above. For example, the chapter on the respiratory circuits concludes with a case study that describes inadequate, superficial anesthesia due to hypercapnia due to a malfunction of the exhalation valve in the reversible respiratory circuit. In the chapter, which presents the pharmacology of drugs that affect adrenergic synapses, the case of anesthesia with pheochromocytoma is examined. The chapter on thoracic anesthesia surgery describes anesthesia for a mediastinal tumor and airway obstruction. Cases from the practice are selected in order to once again emphasize the problems addressed in each chapter, to give a clear description of the key points and to focus on what exactly was done incorrectly by PI how to prevent a similar situation.

I am deeply grateful to the authors who created a new, vibrant guide designed to enrich the clinical knowledge and skill of readers.
